Jazz Showcase Concert

About: The Jazz Studies program at San José State University is one of the preeminent jazz programs in California serving students from around the Bay Area, throughout the state of California, across the United States, and from around the world. We offer both Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in Jazz Studies and enroll roughly 400 music majors each semester. Our jazz faculty is comprised of some of the finest jazz performers and educators from around the country: Dr. Aaron Lington, program coordinator, jazz saxophone, and jazz composition/arranging; Ren Geisick, jazz voice; Jeff Lewis, jazz trumpet; John Gove jazz trombone; Dahveed Behroozi, jazz piano; Rick Vandivier, jazz guitar; Dan Robbins, jazz bass; and Jason Lewis, jazz drums. The Jazz Studies department offers numerous performing opportunities for students including jazz orchestra, Afro-Latin jazz ensemble, jazz combos, vocal jazz ensemble, and more. Ensembles from our department have performed at the Monterey Next Generation Jazz Festival, the San Jose Jazz Summerfest, and many others. Students and alumni have won Grammy Awards, have headlined the Monterey Jazz Festival, and work as educators in many schools around the Bay Area and California.
