Balance in Brass

Balance in Brass

Clinician(s): Dr. Russell Zimmer

This session will revisit beginning brass pedagogical approaches that will help set up your brass players for success from the start. There are many standard well-designed and well-intended band books and resources that can be misunderstood by students. This can lead them to prolonged struggle playing brass instruments, especially the trumpet. Topics to be addressed will include efficient embouchure formation, sound production, and confronting student misconceptions from popular method books old and new. Benefits of this session will help your brass students with their tone, range, endurance and personal enjoyment in playing their instrument. As music educators, we often have our instrumental specialty and general knowledge in other instrumental areas. I would like to share my knowledge as a teacher/performer to help your brass students find long-lasting joy in their musical journey.
