Conductor: Mark Morello
Mark Morello has been a devoted music educator and the instrumental and choral music director at Bristow Middle School since 2006. This year marks his 30th anniversary with the Brentwood Union School District. Under his leadership, the Bristow music program has thrived, engaging nearly 450 students across various ensembles, including concert band, jazz band, choir, and orchestra. He has also taught marching band, musical theater, and K-5 classroom music for over a decade. In addition, Mr. Morello has served as a mentor for new and student teachers for more than 25 years.
His ensembles regularly receive high praise at CMEA and other Bay Area festivals. He has conducted bands at the University of the Pacific’s Summer Music Institute and led the Middle School Honor Band for the Antioch School District in 2020. His choirs have notably performed the National Anthem for the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings for over ten years.
A native of San Mateo, CA, Mr. Morello earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from the University of the Pacific’s Conservatory of Music. He has been an active member of CMEA Bay Section since 1992, serving as its Classroom Music Representative from 2000 to 2004. His accolades include the CMEA Bay Section Outstanding Classroom/General Music Educator award in 2004, the CMEA Alfred Publishing Elementary Music Specialist Award in 2006, Contra Costa County Teacher of the Year in 2008, and the Eric Hammer Beyond the Baton Award in 2020.
Recently, Mr. Morello celebrated his 25th anniversary with his wife, Holly, a dedicated special education teacher. They have two sons, Giovanni and Lorenzo, both of whom play in their high school band. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mr. Morello actively contributes to his community as the Scoutmaster of Scouts BSA Troop 2020 in Brentwood.
