BAND READING SESSION

Clinician(s): Lauren Gibson

Bring your instrument! This year’s director’s band reading session will feature works composed after 2020 and will explore contemporary selections your students will enjoy. The works range from grade 2 to grade 5 and are geared towards middle school and high school bands. Lauren Gibson, Director of Bands at Dougherty Valley High School, will be leading this session. Sheet music is graciously being furnished by J.W. Pepper.

Lauren Gibson is entering her 13th year of teaching and currently teaches Band and AP Music Theory at Dougherty Valley. She was previously the Instrumental Music Director at Acalanes High School for five years where she taught various music disciplines, including Concert Band, Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, Choir, and AP Music Theory. She also taught K-5 music in Washington for 4 years. Ms. Gibson received her Bachelor’s degrees in Music Education and Flute Performance from the University of Montana. She furthered her education with a Masters of Music from the University of the Pacific, where she served as a Graduate Assistant of Bands. Ms. Gibson is now the Secretary for the Executive Council of the California Music Educators Association as well as the Secretary for the Contra Costa County Honor Band. Residing in San Ramon with her fiance and rescue dog Kaia, she enjoys working out at OrangeTheory during her free time.
