Building Musicianship in the High School Choral Classroom

This session will demonstrate techniques to use in the choral classroom to develop musicianship. While these exercises are isolated For the beginning singers who have trouble matching pitch, Dr Morton will share specific games, exercises, and techniques that expedite pitch matching ability while developing the fundamental skills behind sight reading music. The session continues with techniques to develop more advanced skills such as maintaining pitch accuracy independently, navigating rhythms while maintain a steady beat, and following/leading changes in tempo. Actual sight reading begins with reading Curwen hand signs and beat division hand signs, and progressively transfers to printed music over time.
