Primer for Young Bass Players

Nils Johnson, a Santa Cruz native, worked as a string bass and electric bass player in the Los Angeles music scene for 32 years before moving back to the Bay Area in 2011. From jazz to classical, rock to funk, latin to country, he loves playing good music no matter the genre. He has toured, performed live, or recorded with many artists including Alex Acuña, Steve Allen, Michael Bolton, Ray Charles, Joe Farrel, Maynard Ferguson, Bob Hope, James Ingram, Dave Koz, Norman Large, Eric Marienthal, Johnny Mathis, Michael McDonald, Maceo Parker, Willie Nelson, John Tesh, Randy Travis, and Stevie Wonder
For the past 20 years he has taught music in schools, 14 years in LAUSD, (Los Angeles) and 11 years in the Moreland School District, (San Jose).His middle school band has recently been recognized by Downbeat magazine for outstanding performances.
