Black Music Matters: Teaching Jazz History
Clinician: Sarah Cline
Type: Multicultural

Synopsis: In this session Jazz Director at Berkeley High School, Sarah Cline, leads a discussion around teaching jazz history in your jazz classes. Teaching jazz history deepens student understanding of where this music originates, increases their respect for African American culture, and helps them understand U.S. history from 1619 to the present day. How to include lessons like these in our post-pandemic teaching world will be shared as well as resources including Pear Deck lessons (each with an accompanying padlet review and quizzes) and more.
