Meaningful Music Learning for High School SPED Students

This will focus on options for creating part time and full time courses and opportunities for Special Education students in high school who are normally excluded from musical learning opportunities. These will include options for teaching class drums and percussion, as well as integration into the ensemble experience. Potential models for full arts inclusion will also be discussed to create an environment where the students’ needs are addressed without simply checking the box of “inclusion”. The session will feature demonstrations of the bucket drum class at Johansen HS.
