Curating Meaningful Musical Moments: Artistic Approaches to Choosing & Presenting Repertoire

Curating Meaningful Musical Moments: Artistic Approaches to Choosing & Presenting Repertoire

Clinician(s): Jeff de Seriere

If you could pick repertoire without the many limitations placed on us/we place on ourselves, what could this look like? Do we always pick music with a lasting impact on the students we’re fortunate to work with? Should a festival performance be a limit on what we choose to prepare? This session will likely cause you to ask more questions than finding answers, but I hope to offer some thoughts and ways in which we can create more meaningful (I realize how subjective this is) musical moments, and broadening our approach to presenting and teaching music within the large ensemble mediums. We will begin with some prompts, discussion, and then dive into some performances and pieces I know (with some level of confidence) changed my students.
